LETTER TO MONICA

Dear Monica,

Have you ever organised one of these events? I ask, because I have and I know what it involves.

And what happens is that the organisation requests certain things of the minister or official. Will you open our new wing; talk to our staff/pupils/6th form or whatever? Oh and would you sign the book on the way out, or say a few words over our new library... or whatever!

Normally the minister/official does his/her best to comply with as many of these requests as limited time will allow.

Jack McConnell and Margaret Curran (separately) were both most accommodating to our requests when they visited our premises to talk about career opportunities for people living in areas of multiple deprivation.

I suspect that in this case the head teacher requested that the First Minister give up 5 minutes to have a few selfies with the girls she was talking to about equality in careers. In fairness, regardless of your politics, Nicola must be a bit of a role model for a teenage girl who wants to make a career for herself.

And the FM, being the kind of person who will always make time in her day if she can, agreed.

You have to wonder if Ms Dugdale would have said ... "NO, I'm far too important and busy to take selfies with school children".

And the answer is, no, of course she wouldn't. Just like Nicola she'd have said "Yes of course I will".

If you want to have a go at the first minister try to up your game a bit, Monica. Try politics for example. Don't quibble about 5 minutes of Nicola's time. It makes you look incredibly petty. And most of all don't pick on something that your own leader would have readily agreed to. That just makes you look silly.

Maybe one day someone will ask YOU to be in a selfie.

Yours sincerely

Tris

  1. I think at election time I may have alerted your readers to the nasty piece of work that is our Monica. A political clone of Jabba in a way. Slightly lighter in weight ( pun intended! ).

  2. The most pressing issue for British Labour's Scottish branch (aftrr their infighting is over), is to allow folk to sing the Sash at the fitba. A harmless, friendly five minutes or a hate filled 90 minutes?

    1. Who knows PS.

I have heard that there may be more pressing matters though. It seems that Ms Dugdale's coat may be on a shoogley peg if Jeremy wins again, what with her having been seriously against him, then for him, then against him, and apparently inviting one of his enemies, that shadow secretary blokey with the UK suit, to join her cabinet.

      Wee Anas for branch manager?

  3. I had to laugh at her own Twitter page. Someone posted a pic of it on the Revs timeline.
Yep, you guessed it. It was all selfies.

    3. She's not scoring highly on the self awareness scale, is she?

  4. I hadn't heard of Monica Lennon before this. I can see why.

    1. Not of much interest. Saor Alba mentioned her before... he points out that she is another, rather less important Baillie!

  5. Is this lady important enough to incur the wrath of Munquin? I think not, as usual!

    1. Oh lord no, John. Munguin's never heard of her. The letter's from me. I wouldn't waste the boss's time with the likes of her.

It's all so boring now. The papers can't discuss policy, the state of the country, poverty, unemployment as it all reflects badly on their union. They can only highlight GERS and we all know what rubbish that is. I wonder what people think when they see the standard of our media in this country, they must cringe at what we have to put up with. I suspect that M Lennon, I had to look up to see who she actually was, is just another Jenny Marra. An MSP pretty much by default and not a very good one, I hate the list at times I really do, but either way just your SNP bad but actually it's not bad at all. Young girls getting a talk and a chance at a photo with one of the few female leaders in Government in the world, I bet they were just totally thinking I hate the SNP.

    1. LOL. That's true.

The silly thing is that they aren't convincing anyone.

Those who were going to be convinced that Scotland is crap have already been so convinced. The rest of us don't believe a word the silly sods say. And one day they will tell us a truth, and we'll reject it as more SNP BAAAAAAD.

I think that the system has to be revised. The list evens up the inadequacies of FPTP, but it's not a good system (albeit better than the rubbish of FPTP).

STV seems to me to be a better bet.

    2. STV would result in a unionist government. Look at what happened at the last council by-election. The Tories gave their second vote to Labour to stop the SNP.

    3. Oh damn, yeah. That's true.

I'd forgotten about the unholy alliance.
