THE MAN WHO CAN'T EVEN MANAGE TO WALK ALONG A PAVEMENT

Without going...erm, base over apex

I'm reminded that after being appointed Education Secretary in 2010, he rushed to the Commons to deliver a set of figures on English school building. He was forced to apologise, however, when the list of terminated school-building projects he had released was found to be inaccurate. The list was reannounced several times before it was finally accurately published.

He blamed the Civil Service.

Having wreaked havoc in English education, he was demoted to Chief Whip. However, on the occasion of his first vote in that position, he got himself stuck in the lavatory with a Labour MP.

It's not known who got the blame for that.

Now, of course he is English Justice secretary. (God help the English.)

What will go horribly wrong and who will get the blame?

  1. He may be England's Justice minister but,as usual,England's elected government and it's officials will continue to decide matters that affect Scotland in a big way.
Looks like Cameron is trying to kick the "more powers for Scotland" can down the road before he announces that we can't have them.
He has bigger fish to fry in the short term.
His problem is,however, that Scots will see categorically that it doesn't matter what we think or which politicians we elect to power, under the present system,England will always determine major policy in Scotland and the only way we are ever going to have a say over what happens in our country is through independence.
A very narrow short sighted position to take and there will be consequences.
Can't see Gove surviving long in his position once they realise what a can of worms tinkering with Human Rights is.

    1. I cabn't believe that they are taking this attitude.

They have nothing to lose except Mundell, and, well seriously, who would care about that?

But it must be obvious to even them that treating us with disrespect hasn;t exactly worked in teh past. labour just found that out to their cost.

Nah, Govey is destined to make a mess of this, as he has of everything else they let him do, including walking along a street.

    2. They may try but, things ain't like what the used to be....
Since time in memorial, Scotland sent representatives of UK parties to Westminster, that duly sat on their hands and let the party dictate but, no longer.
As we now have a mandate from a Scottish based party, all bets are off. Westminster cannot make laws detrimental to Scotland, the acts of union clearly and unequivocally state thus. It has been used in court and upheld; the "settled will" of the Scotland people is paramount, not the crown (as in the rUK).
So, the poll tax, bedroom tax and even going to war would not have happened without the express consent of the people of Scotland but, because we have voted for non- domicile parties in the past, with puppet Scots, we got dragged along. No more...game on.

  2. I find it hilarious that his Scots accent has virtually vanished, the more rhe Scots are finally finding their own voice.
Who is he trying to kid?

    1. I suppose, given that he is Scottish, we should be grateful that the position of Scottish Secretary is beneath even Gove's dignity to accept.

He sounds like a proud Englishman to me.

  4. Glaikit idiot, now who on earth voted for him they must be either as stupid or as I suspect only vote Tory regardless of which numbskull they put up.
Mum and Dad must be so proud of their little cuckoo, considering he was brought up in a Labour household. Perhaps that was the problem.

  5. Tris, I have often thought about the origins of "base over apex", as you so politely put it. Well more your bottom over your elbow.
I have a theory, it is from Erse over Alba. Erse being Irish Gaelic, and Alba being Scot's Gaelic.
As in you don't know your Erse from your Alba, maybe the redcoats couldn't tell the Scots from the Irish. Just a theory, does anyone in the republic have any thoughts (on this, obviously we all think or we would not be here, ( grovel, grovel))?

    1. Really that is a brilliant thoery.

Like with so many of these expressions I've never thought of its origin.

      But that seems absolutely credible.

Anyone else got an alternative theory?

John, as our resident Gael... what do you think....?

    2. To use another expression, Tris, "Feck knows" but it sounds a reasonable explanation to me.....

    1. Ha ha. Paving Slab, CH.

Niko. I heard this morning that Gideon has announced a budget in July. Welfare cuts, that they didn't know where they would hit only a couple of weeks ago, will be announced. Bit of quick work by HM Treasury.

If you're not very rich, be afraid.

  7. Gove is a walking disaster. Having had to work with Whitehall in jobs in the past, I've met the entire range of civil service. Some of them are really good, some are basically crap. But it is the ministers who screw things up.

You never, ever blame your own department publicly. You're responsible - you take the rap.

But typical bloody politician. Let's try this jop for a while, after all, I can screw things up and still get my monthly wage.

    1. That is the reason that government departments were turned into "Agencies" with Chief Executives on huge bonuses so that Ministers could wash their hands of any mistakes and blame the CEs. I seem to remember that happening with Howerd and the prison services etc etc..

    2. Anon. On both sides there are some who, no matter how useless they were, they always get to have another go. I am always suspicious of these ones. I think that to get away with some of the messes that they made, and come back they must know dark secrets.

Iain Duncan Smith, otherwise known as the Grim Reaper, has now managed to waste hundreds of millions, possibly even a billion on his cock eyed projects, at the same time as killing thousands of sick people by starving or freezing them to death. but he's back at the DWP. After all it's only poor people who are suffering. What the hell does he know about Cameron, or someone else at the top, that could guarantee this idiot his job?

John: I remember that too. There was an interview on the Today programme where Humphries asked him if he was responsible... and he denied it, despite being...erm....responsible.

Another Tory ex-leader. Another total failure. now sitting, of course, in the palatial luxury of her majesty's upper house, awash with champagne of the very highest quality, for the use of aristocrats only.
