  1. I hate to do this, but the "Fern forest" is a work by the photo-artist Rudd Van Empel. Sorry.

    I loved the lightening.

    2. Sorry Jimnarlene not a reply to you but ther was no add comment.
Some real crackers there, I too loved the lightning and may I commend Muguin on his choice of staff quarters, you must be moving up in the world. The face on the otter is something else, caught in the act me thinks. I can only hope that the donkeys had eaten the rest of DC, now someone will have to attend to the sore tummies. I on the other hand have a Pug in a Buster collar after yet another operation on his eyes. This time not quite as serious but about as expensive so if anyone wants to spend a weekend in a nice billet outside Dunfermline any contributions will be welcome. I notce his Vet can afford to go off to nice places. Helena p.s lost my password yet again and cannot be bothered getting another.

    3. Yes, I think I should have been a vet. It seems to pay good money.

I'd suggest writing an article on Munguin's Republic for a generous fee, by Panda Paws tells me that although we faithfully send off the cheques, they never seem to arrive. Mind you, it's strange that Munguin insists on writing the envelopes himself!

    4. Nope,Photoshopped. From images in Holland (the backgrounds)

      http://web.ruudvanempel.nl/publications-press/

"First he collects all the features he needs by shooting a variety of young models in his studio and by subsequently wandering through Dutch forests, in search of fine leaves, perfect branches and the right waters. Only to tear it apart and spend weeks reconstructing it all until both the person and the setting match his desired standard of photo-realism. Van Empel calls this digital collage."

    5. Oh, bugger...

Oh well, it's pretty, even if it's fiction.

  2. Whew! I thought it was Monday for a while - and I was late for work.

Thank you for another calming selection. I have pretty much the same photo as 11 in my collection, but with my lovely wife standing in front of the frame.

    1. Oh dear, sorry to have worried you, SA.

      I trust you calmed down.

It's a lovely looking place, I'm sure enhanced by your wife. :)

      Did you holiday there?

  4. Great photo's again Tris. When Munguin's butler moves on I'd like the job.

    :)

I think that stump came from my Forrest years, will root around and see if I have anything else.

    1. Thanks Gerry... and thanks for Stumpy.

I double as Munguin's butler, when I'm not writing rubbish, or being his driver and general factotum ...

You really don't want the job, I promise you!

      :)

  5. Oh those were lovely and so much better than the last article. Anne - that coo is adorable. I wonder if picture two is the Californian redwoods? So much better than the Westminster Redwood ;-)

Picture no 1 - unbelievably cute. Who know boredom could look so sweet.

And Helena, the cheques never come. Not from Munguin...

  6. Sorry to be picky but it is Aonach Eagach not Anoach Eagach.

I'm a Gaelic Learner, so when I saw it I knew "summat wisna right".
Had to earch to verify the correct spelling though.

    see http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/aonacheagach.shtml
    for pronunciation and meaning.

    1. Not at all. Tapadh leat. I fixed it. Gaelic is difficult spelling wise.

I'm surprised our John didn;t notice.

Anyway, folk, if we get something wrong where at the Republic, don't be afraid to le us know. We don't bite :)

    2. You shouldn't worry too much, as our Unionist friends tell us Gaelic is a dead language that people stopped speaking decades ago (they wish)!

Seriously though, I do enjoy these wee peaceful interludes in our journey to a new, better future.

    3. Very much some people's first language, but it doesn't fit in with the Yoons' view of their united kingdom so it's put down.

I'm so glad you enjoy SS :)

What a joy it is that there are people who rescue animals; and what an abomination that there are people who keep them in basements.

  9. Sorry to intrude, but there is an individual on Facebook making some rather unpleasant accusations regarding Nicola Sturgeon today:
"I won't vote for a party that wants rid of Trident. And sadly I am seeing the Plaid leader trying to emulate the racist leader of the SNP. Not the kind of person I want as a leader."
    and
"Nothing Miss Sturgeon says is anything but spiteful about the 'English' I have spent years in Scotland and as my view of her is my view, I can and do feel she is a racist. She openly holds the country and the people in contempt, did nothing to stop the behaviour of rabid supporters who abused ordinary people in the streets who wanted to vote yes, did nothing to stop the intimidation of yes voters...washed her hands of it and then refused and still does refuse to accept the vote of the people."
    Individual is Anne Arnold.

    1. Is Anne Arnold a public figure? If not, what is the point in raising this?

Unpleasant as the comments are, they are best left ignored.

    2. She sounds deluded to me.

I don't recognise any of that as being Nicola. But she gets a lot of stick from people, like every other politician.

As Zog says, its best to ignore her.

I'm sure her friends care what she says. The rest of the world doesn't.

  10. New Zealand looks like a nice place, so I checked to see if it is crawling with the most deadly serpents and spiders in the world as is Australia. (Not to mention the huge salt water crocodiles that probably eat hundreds of Australians annually.) It's a wonder that very many Australians live to adulthood. So how about New Zealand?

There are various websites that say there are no snakes in New Zealand. But now I see that there are......and apparently have been ever since the mid-19th century. Brought in by Australians who apparently, and for no apparent reason, like to travel with snakes in their luggage.

Not sure about the deadly spiders and crocs.

    1. Choked myself laughing at the idea of Australian tourists who travel with snakes in their suitcases.

We have quite a few of them here... I shall beware of them from now on.

We don't have many snakes here. Grass snakes which are harmless adn some adders which can give a nasty bite, and can even kill sometimes... But they are very rarely seen.

  11. LOL.....I'm going to look out for snake toting Aussie tourists from now on too. In the USA, the state of Hawaii is snake free, and Hawaiian snake control people are always on the lookout for snakes at places like the Honolulu airport, seaports, etc. I suppose the snake control people go on high alert when Australian tourists show up with their suitcases. ;-))

    1. Hawaii is quite close to Australia (in as much as anything is). You should get a banner and march up and down at Honolulu Airport.

      KEEP HAWAII SNAKE FREE.

I've got an Aussie mate who sent me a photograph of him and his wife out of a walk of a evening and there was a massive black snake curled up at the side of the pavement. Apparently its bite will kill you in a matter of minutes, but they just walk past and take a pic...

  12. The Aussies seem to live relatively peacefully with the venomous wildlife I guess. For myself, I'll give some thought to joining the Honolulu snake patrol...LOL.
