CALEDONIA YOU'RE CALLING ME AND NOW I'M GOING HOME

Today I got an email from Martin of The Libations.

Here is some of the information he sent… about their recording of Caledonia. He writes:

"The recording is a modern reworking with the energy and passion of our time and it has really had an effect on people with 24,000 views on YouTube over the past couple of weeks.

"Not only is it an inspirational record for 'Yes', but every single penny of the sales proceeds go to food bank charities.

"Our aim is to get into the Scottish charts by the end of next week - To get to #1 it needs to sell around 6000 downloads between Sunday 24th and next Saturday 30th August, but over 2000 will get it into the top 10 in Scotland.

"Once into the charts it will be on every radio station playlist and this will send a message to the powers that be, raising awareness of the issue and good money for the food banks."

Now I know that when we covered the story some weeks ago many of you went out and bought it then. I know, because Matin emailed me to tell me how much he appreciated your support and the sales... and the money that went to food banks.
"It's not for me. Erm, I'm ready for my close up now Tristan"
Now I'm going to be all kinds of cheeky... but you understand, this isn't for me; it's not for Munguin; it's not even for the Libations. They won't get a halfpenny from it.

Instead it's for two things.

It's for YES. Imagine a song about Scotland in the charts in Scotland with everybody humming it and singing a wee snatch every few minutes, in the run up to the referendum, and maybe more important (although its hard to think of anything as being more important than the referendum), it's about raising awareness of, and money for, our fellow Scots, of whatever nationality, creed and age, who are going hungry in this oil rich country because some disconnected from reality politicians want to wave a nuclear weapon around to make them feel like they matter.

So, I guess what I'm saying is ... it's 79p at Amazon (where is currently #1 in country songs) or iTunes

We need to sell 2,000 to get it into the top ten and playing on the radio stations. After that the quality of the music, performance and production will sell it... And every time a copy is downloaded thats another person had another meal.

Simples.

So even if you already bought it... if you have any spare cash, why not buy it again... maybe five times, or ten times if you're a rich Tory.

It's not really going to cost you that much, but it's going to make a difference.
Munguin already has his headphones on.
You can buy it here, or here, and there's an excellent Huffington Post Article here about the group.

Another way we can help is by Tweeting the song... or this Munguin article or the Huffpost article or this from STV... or sharing on any Facebook or any other media that you are part of.

Thanks.

I've said this before on various sites, we need a number one in the charts during the run up to the referendum, but someone needs to coordinate it.
Why not (tris) get in touch with Stuart on WOS and ask him to promote it for the next three weeks?
6,000 or 7,000 purchases per week at 79p should be a doddle.

    1. I agree with you. This version of Caledonia is stunning. Its rousing and also very positive in message. Its about who we are and where we're going. It deserves to be in the charts and heard far 'n wide.
There's a tune doing the rounds just now by the proclaimers that just panders to victim hood. Its not a great message. Some are trying to promote it but I reckon this new Caledonia is more what you want the world to hear us singing. It says everything about what the referendum means to me! It brought a tear to my eye.
How do we make sure everyone hears it?

  2. I think Stu reads Munguin's Republic at least sometimes, because he has commented here. But i'm thinking that you are right.

Maybe Martin could get in touch with him. I'll mention it and maybe Richie will too....?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

It would be brilliant if it was #1. The publicity will of course come if we can get it into the charts,a dn the radio stations pick up on it. But it was cheering to see it at #1 on the country chart for Amazon.

  4. Hi Tris wow, what an opening page you have got .

I spent all Saturday with the lads as they wandered up and down Leith Festival playing in cafe's and pubs and even alongside the Big Blue Fire Engine.

People where singing along with the chorus and the welcome from passers by was positive and encouraging . The Libations are putting as much effort as possible to get around folk with the song and will be in Dundee next week to play live there. I will get details asap.

A huge thanks Tris and all Munguins readers. You have already made this a success but with all the energy and excitement of the referendum it would be great if we can have a Scottish Hit belting out the radio on the final days of the run up.

Buy the song folks and help feed our poor and unfortunate, it could be you.

Off to E-mail Stu at Wings . See if we can push this further.

    1. Brilliant Richy.

If the lads are in Dundee, I'll be there.

I need to shake their hands for this brilliant effort as musicians, as Scots and as humanitarians.

Yes, Richy. Wings will be a fantastic way of getting it into the charts.

    2. Any success they get is because of sites like these where people come for advice, humour or just curiosity . I hope to be with them and get to shake YOUR hand Tris. You have a cracking site , loads of info and the comments are a joy.

The lads really appreciate it all. It's energized them and the push is on to get it belting out the radio on the run up.

Agree with the Proclaimers song thingy, I think we should keep that one "Cap in hand" for a NO vote. Can see everyone buying it if we lose. Something to throw in the unionist faces when it all goes wrong.

Don't think we'll need that tho. Scotland is awake and very aware now.

      thanks all at Munguins.

    3. Well Richie to be fair the success they are having is hugely down to the fact that they are a cracking band... singling a cracking song...that they are doing it for a good cause... or really two good causes.

But we are glad if we have helped that along.

I look forward to meeting you too Richie.

Agreed. If the Scots are too weak minded to vote for independence we should send cap in hand to the top of the charts, because that's clearly how they see themselves. Subservient to the Tory Eton Boys and their Labour fags. (Did you know Alistair Darling was fag to Norman Lamont at school?)

    1. Great Anon...

Well, I think the way to get it heard is...

Promote on social media; talk about it with your mates, family, work colleagues and request it from the local radio stations adn buy it for your friends and family, and by doing so, increase the likelihood of it being being played on radio (good chart position).

The extra joy is that every halfpenny goes to feeding people who can't feed themselves.

    2. Just had an email from Martin...

He's grateful to you all for your support.

The important thing, as he points out is to get it into the top 20 of the Scottish chart.

      We can do this...

I'm off to buy another copy...

  6. Hi Tris, Darren here. Just wanted to give 'the gang' and yourself a massive thanks for the kind words and support. Today the single sits at number 8 in Amazon's download chart and despite your claim it's down to us, it's not. It's mainly down to you guy's and the rest of the YES movement.
Tomorrow, Martin and I head to Loaves and Fishes to hand in our first cheque. It's for £1000.Not a great amount, but a great start. If we can push it into the charts and gain national and international airplay, the possibilities are phenomenal. It's really exciting.
I look forward to meeting you on Saturday in Dundee. I'm sure it'll be a great day for the campaign.
My heartfelt thanks goes out to you and your readers.
    Darren x
