RICHARD BAKER TO STAND DOWN

I just heard the sad news that Richard Baker, list MSP for North East Scotland, is standing down at the election.

Mr Baker stood for the Aberdeen North constituency in the recent UK elections losing heavily to to Kirsty Blackman of the SNP.

He then stood for the deputy leadership of the Scottish branch of the Labour Party and lost that to Alex Rowley, although we do not know by how much, given Labour's policy of hiding their membership numbers.

It seems not to have been his year for winning stuff.

Mr Baker has held a variety of posts in the Labour Party in Scotland. He was for a while their Justice Spokesman. A job he was surely born for, as this clip shows.

Munguin's Republic wishes Mr Baker more success in whatever he chooses to do next.

    1. Indeed. Ms Dugdale must be frantic with worry this morning. OK, admittedly not over that! But...

  2. I think this may turn out to be a fun thred.

Richard Baker a pygmy in the Lilliputian World of Scottish
    Labour.

A man who slid sideways on the greasy pole and disappered without any meaningful memory.

    1. Brilliantly put... I thought the "no comment" was unlikely.

  3. Another carpetbagger, failing to get higher up the greasy pole of "Scottish" Labour.
Damn the facts, I won't listen, SNP are bad, bad I say, (sticks fingers in ears) LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA.
    Good grief.

    1. Really. Now that surprises me a little. Still kids always love their dad.

    1. More likely stabbed in the back if the Labour Party is running in it's usual way.

    2. Perhaps he sees that he's never going to get anywhere.

He came last the the deputy leadership race; he was resoundingly beaten in his attempt to become and MP, and Kez didn't offer him a place in the shadow cabinet.

      Huff maybe?

  6. Not much to add, I reckon he is not a pygmy size wise, but brain wise I am sure the pygmy tribe is a whole lot smarter than he is. Sorry I cannot be generous as Munguin and your good self. Long may he languish in the ranks of the unemployed because he seems unemployable to me.

    1. His parents are both Anglican priests. Maybe there's a job there for him?

  7. No wonder, with pratts like that, the Labour party is on it's knees. Sometime this afternoon the in-fighting will begin.....

    1. Yeah, and of course there was the obligatory interview with McTernan.

The BBC seem to think he's a bit of a star... must be his ebullient stage presence, or something.

  8. And that is why Izzy Fraser is no longer on tv, the labour lot made sure of that!
