  1. Sorry Tris this is nothing to do with the splendid collection of pics you've selected for this weeks round up.

It would appear that someone has managed to locate the VERY elusive Mr Brown and released him onto the unsuspecting public.

If you find this too much to take then Peter Bell has a good piece ripping Brown to shreds.

    Whatever problems imaginary or not
the 'PAST is not the answer

"We have so many important challenges to take and we will only succeed if we can pool forces, join action, take common directions. The global financial crisis is hitting us hard. Climate change is threatening the planet. How can separatism help? The word of the future is union."

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/nov/03/alex-salmond-scottish-independence

EU tells Alex Salmond to think again in Scottish independence row

President of European council pours scorn on Scottish vote and calls separatism a thing of the past

Give it up there is too much against you. All you will achieve is ignominious retreat and defeat.
Come the day the snp carefully placed Chess pieces will be swept off the board. By the chaim mail clad hand of the 'UNION' (both UK and EU).

  4. Niko,

By the "chain mail hand" do you mean the "clunking fist" - clunking brain, more like now that they've let this idiot have his say...

Actually the slogan the Better Together campaign should use is "Vote yes and it's possible that Jo Lamont could be First Minister". That should cut the Yes Vote in half.

  5. Thanks Arbroath. I heard he had a few spare moments between book signings and the American money making machine and decided that, rather than do the job he is now paid to do...ie be the member for his constituency... a job for which he is paid around 3 times the average wage, he would make a speech on independence.

Of course we all trust his judgement, don't we?

I'll read Bell's piece later... I'm going to profit from the sun shine and get some exercise!

  7. So Niko, my little scone....

What do you think about Ms Lamonts Damascene conversion?

She originally came into politics to get rid of nuclear weapons; she voted with the rest of the Labour party to have them moved from Scotland, and now, suddenly, she is for them...

She must have seen not just the light, but a searing blast of heat and light...

Either that or Ed told her that she wouldn't get to come to the london shadow cabinet if she didn't revise her opinions, tout de suite.

So, of course people change their views on these things, I know that, the leadership of the SNP just changed their views on Nato... but it was her reason for coming into politics....

At least the leadership of the SNP came into politics to free Scotland. Nato was a side issue.

It was central to Mrs Lamont's raison d'être... and I stress the word WAS.

  8. John, I'd be swithering myself, if I thought that woman was going to be FM...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Is that Mrs Lamont hand in glove with Mr Mili, Niko?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The woman can change her mind, as you say, the SNP did regarding NATO. The difference is in the degree of change, Lamont's volte face is several times greater than that of the SNP.

As for Gordon Brown's re-appearance, meh, no one listens to him anyway, except the special kind of swivel-eyed, reality denying labour supporters.

I'm not thinking of anyone in particular you understand, as in, not any one who comments here on a regular basis. I mean I'm not naming names or anything, its just a general observation about Niko.

    ;-)

    It's a growing movement.

  13. Niko:

I was wondering if there are any Labour MSPs who feel strongly enough about having joined the party at a time when they were anti nuclear, ban the bomb, etc, who will feel betrayed now that Johann has turned into George W Bush... and who will do the honourable thing and resign the party whip.

They might even do the extra honourable thing and stand down as MSPs (unlike, I admit, the SNP members who did not feel THAT strongly, £55 grand being a lot of money at a certain age, and in an area of the country where jobs of that salary are like hens' teeth!).

  14. tris

    Dennis Mcshane has resigned

anyway youse Nats were saying the other day msps should stand by the partys policies.
They being elected as party representatives have to keep to the party line...

and now you snp nats stand on yer head nothing changes

    ReplyDelete
  15. McShane resigned (probably with Mr Miliband's foot at his backside), because he admitted stealing money from the taxpayer. It was the second time that he had been found out fiddling. He had been suspended before, and was again on Nov 2nd. He finally decided to go. It was nothing to do with principle, or policy. Just criminality.

I thought that the two who resigned from the SNP were right to do so. But I thought that they should have resigned from their jobs too.

They (as list MSPs) were elected to represent the SNP in parliament. Not, like constituency MSPs, as individuals. There in their area was an SNP vote which gave the people at the top of the SNP list a seat.

How many Labour people are resigning the whip, because the party has changed direction so dramatically?

The leader who was drawn into politics because of the abomination on our doorstep, now welcomes it, having climbed the greasy pole to the London shadow cabinet.

  16. Dearie dearie me pair wee Niko is still grasping at the ever dwindling number of straws as is the Guardian.

    http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201213/cmselect/cmfaff/writev/643/m06.htm

    http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natolive/opinions_88129.htm

Of course it would help a lot if the Guardian could actually keep up with events. that nice wee video is from June 2011. Nothing wrong with that per se except that there is an interview with van Rompuy in May 2012 where he answers a number of questions about the E.U.

    http://www.euronews.com/2012/05/09/herman-van-rompuy-the-eu-will-never-become-the-united-states-of-europe/

I think YYY pointed out a very valid point over on wings about this interview Tris.

“No I don’t think so. The European Union will never become the United States of Europe. There are 27 or 28 [member states] with Croatia. Each country has its own history, some have a history of 200 years, like Belgium and some have a history of a thousand years. So we are not like an American State. We have our own languages, we have 23 languages in Europe. We have a special identity in each of our member states and a very specific situation due to our history”.

Again, perhaps he forgot to add the words, “except in Scotland” or, as Van Rompuy would say, except in ‘separatist’ Scotland.

I suspect that the British government has been engaging in a little ‘green room’ diplomacy here, just to put the EU straight on the issue of Scottish ‘separatism’.

I think the fact that Scottish "separatism" was never mentioned by van Rompuy can only lead to one conclusion, an Independent Scotland would be treated EXACTLY the same as every other E.U. country.

Time for all the anti Independence sooth sayers got with the programme and caught up with the latest developments in the real world.

Scotland WILL be an Independent country

Scotland WILL, if we choose, REMAIN, a member of the E.U.

Scotland will NOT have to join the Euro.

Scotland CAN join NATO without holding any nukes or permitting nukes within her sovereign territory.

Scotland WILL be a better place to live

Scotland WILL be a fairer place to live

Scotland will NEVER abuse the poor, the weak, the infirm as is currently going on through Westminster.

Scotland CAN stand on its own two feet in the world.

Scotland IS a world leader in renewables and will continue to be so after Independence.

  17. Arbroath 1320

    yer reality

    aint matured has it

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, Arbroath, and Scotland will not squander cast amounts on "keeping up appearances" or pretending that it is still a world power.

I've always thought that this is one of the South East of England fallacies. Cameron seems to think that having embassies nearly everywhere, and the power, if not the authority to drop nuclear missiles, and go to war at the drop of a hat (or a phone call from Mrs Clinton) matters to us.

I don't think it does. It's a preoccupation of the London chattering classes who may in some way benefit from all this kind of stuff.

Di Jones, Seth Postlethwaite, Denzel Penruthlan, Mick O'Donnell, and Jock McSporran don't actually give a stuff about it. They'd rather have jobs, good roads, reasonable fuel costs and a certainty about old age.

They won't get that in the UK.

  19. Was it really Niko?

    How to Confuse an Electorate

  22. Here's the latest result from an on line poll.

"Should Scotland leave the United Kingdom?"

    NO 11.13% ( 430 votes )
    YES 88.87% ( 3,432 votes )

I think this poll give lie to the usual unionist bile that Scots don't want Independence. Moreover the number of respondents is 3 - 4 times the number of respondents to the "normal" Independence poll pushed by the unionist MSM.

Oh by the way this poll is running on a UNIONIST website not an Independence site, hmm that can't be right surely, can it?

  26. It's not the first time this has happened, Arbroath.

Rem,ember some Labour MP from Glasgow had a poll like that on his blog, and it was overwhelmingly FOR independence.

I have just commented somewhere about the fact that he at least had had the guts to leave it up... when he took it down.

The whole blog was down for a few days... after which I lost interest...

  28. O.K. folks enough of all this frivolity, time to get serious.

We all know about Gordon Brown and his twenty questions, well wouldn't you know it the Better Together crowd have drawn up their own list, no seriously they have and here it is.

Now remember when you look at the questions you do have give each question some SERIOUS consideration.

The Ian Davidson quote is a spoof made by BBC Scotlandshire.

Given that Labour believes in nukes and removing universal care, education and doesn't belueve in redistribution of wealth.

That Labour MPs without irony can use "Socialist" as a pejorative (Tom Harris against Patrick Harvie yesterday) then does Niko actually belueve in anything?

Is Niko just an Orange-Unionist fantasist?
