ERM, I'LL CHANGE...

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THE AUTHENTICITY OF THIS LIB-DEM ELECTION COMMUNICATION?

This is, allegedly, an election leaflet for Willie Rennie.

In it he points out that he will not "sit silent while our area is ignored" if he is elected as the constituency MSP.

He also says that he has been one of the area MSPs for the last five years.

Then he notes that the area HAS been ignored for the last five years, ...erm, that would be the five years when he was one of its voices in parliament.

He appears to have found a voice.

It's hardly what anyone sentient would put in an election address. So much so that I found it difficult to believe that it was a genuine leaflet, and although I saw it last night, I was dubious about publishing it

However throwing caution to the wind, and mindful that it was from the Liberal Democrats, I thought I'd put it out there and see if any of Munguin's readers has actually seen a copy of this, or can confirm that it is real.

    1. Yes, it is Renniesque, isn't it?

I'm told Wings tweeted about it, and Stuart rarely, if ever, errs in these matters. I suspect it is genuine.

    and this in the torygraph

Britain's special relationship with China is becoming more expensive by the day. It now threatens to destroy the British steel industry, a foundation pillar of our manufacturing economy.

Britain is not alone. Most of Europe's steel foundries are heading for annihilation under the current EU trade regime, with unthinkable consequences through the network of European and British supply chains.

It is hard to pin down the exact moment when George Osborne's love affair with China turned into a Faustian Pact.

If only Labour could be as excoriating...FFS

    1. Hell's teeth... The Troy graph having a go at a Tory chancellor and blaming him for messing up Europe's bid to try to keep Chinese steel down...

I never thought I'd live to see the day.

      Revolution on Brecqhou!

Actually, here's a laugh. I was looking up Wikipedia to check how you spell Brecqhou, and I discovered that the mad twins, who were so desperatly against Scotland becoming independent from teh UK, want to make Brecqhou independent from Sark.

To this end they already break Sark law by driving cars and landing helicopters. If I were the government of Sark I'd send a constable, look them up in a cell, and throw away the key.

But it seems that even in ideal Sark, money brings the kind of privilege that means you can scoff at the law.

    2. According to the BBC this morning, France, Germany and italy protect their steel industries.

Who's right... the Tory graph or the BBC?

I also saw it on twitter, no idea id it's real but I would not be surprised. The judgement of the Unionist Parties and esp Rennie is very suspect. I did hear that his seat was at risk if the greens make some inroads, please let that be true but I suspect that he is in a safe enough seat or they would have done a Dugdale and Davidson and moved him onto a safer list. It's where the list system just falls flat, we need PR for all all elections in my opinion, there should not be backdoors for people like Rennie and every vote should matter even if it means coalitions, democracy matters and the list for me is not democratic in some ways. Sarwar may well get to milk the public purse again, spout crap and depress the crap out of all of us even though he was rejected last year. Just have PR, I know that would not stop people like Rennie and Sarwar but it is the best system in my opinion.

      democracy matters......

and in a snp one party state it matters even more

    2. As I said over at your place Bruce, there should be no double dunts. It the electorate doesn't want you, they don't want you. No sneaking in by the back door. Applies to all parties.

    3. Niko: Can you define "one party state" please?

Fun to see the slightly hysterical "one party state" get out for an airing. Wouldn't it be great if people thought things through rather than doing verbal farts like "one party state"?

    7. Hello Topotsie. Yes. I think it originated with the probably soon to be leader of Labour in Scotland, Mr Sarwar, when he complained bout the lack of democracy in the parliament his party set up, under the rules and regulations that Donald Dewar (like 50 time the man he is) worked out.

That parliament where, despite the notion of one party stateness, he, who was so roundly rejected 12 months ago, he will soon be taking a place (as long as Labour gets 12,000 votes in Glasgow). What a prat.

  7. It looks cheap, folksy, cobbled together: it must genuine although the joined up writing suggests an adult was also involved.

  8. If it had been anyone else, I would have said it was a certain fake. But with Rennie you never know. No wonder Bruce left the party.

On the subject of steel prices, it is true that other countries protect their industries. Germany is a prime example despite having the highest wages in Europe.

    1. I've just discovered that (see next post) the UK has blocked the EU doing anything about the steel industries. Maybe Germany, France and Italy at least, have seen the vexatious nature of britain's veto and decided to ignore it, not having a personal love affair with China themselves.

I'm inclined to agree with your first point. Rennie's a bit pathetic.
