RAMBLING THOUGHTS: THIS AND THAT AND PRESIDENT XI

The Chinese President and his wife are going on a state visit to London, starting tonight and it seems Cameron is practising being suitably deferential.

It appears that since Obama took up with Frau Merkel, the Eton boy has been searching around for another "bestie" to whom he can grovel, the better to continue to be seen with a big boy somewhere in the world.

He is, we should never forget, quite popular with the Saudi royals, who find him a useful supplier of weapons, and of course, a ready sponsor for their chairmanship of the Human Rights Panel of the United Nations, which is pretty weird for arguably one of the world's worst abusers of human rights. Still, rich though they are, they don't quite have the je ne sais quoi of superpower mates!

We know, of course Dave's friendship with Putin was somewhat strained after the Russian president knocked him back over his request to help defeat the Yes Campaign in the Scottish independence referendum, so that only really leaves the Chinese.

So Gideon, doing his master's bidding, was off last week to Beijing, promising the Chinese they can build England's railways and their nuclear power stations and ...well, anything really, as long as Xi (can I call you Jinping?) will pose for pictures with Cameron and make him look and feel like he actually matters a bit.,... not to mention making that ingrate Obama a little jealous!

I heard that Charlie won't be at the state dinner for President Xi as, at 66 he needs to rest before embarking next month on some foreign visits. Just as well his 89 year old mother doesn't need to rest so much, or hosting Dave's state visit might entail dragging the enchanting princess Beatrice back from whatever holiday the lazy sponging git is on at the moment.

(As a side note, maybe Iain Duncan Smith would like to look into this potential client's case. It seems that she's been unemployed for 8 months and has only managed 17 holidays. Does this make her a striver or a skiver and should she be sanctioned?)

As Munguin hasn't been invited to the state dinner we won't be able to give you chapter and verse about who sat next to whom, or how many courses there were.

We did, however, manage to get along to Aldi's today and make a wee contribution to the local church's food-bank, then take some clothes to the very excellent Refugee centre in Dundee where fantastic people were working hard sorting donations to take to Calais.

Anyway, we hope their state visit goes well. They would be welcome to come to Scotland sometime for Haggis and chappit tatties and neeps!

Oh, and  have a nice holiday, Beatrice. Don't you worry your pretty little head about poor suffering people, will you?

  1. Ooh, careful about criticising links with China. They are a major customer of Scottish salmon. (Fish variety not the politician!)

Surprised no one photoshopped a sword into the pic with the Saudi king!

    1. Oh I don't criticise links with them. They are, for all the drop in their growth to 3 times our growth, a massive trading partner and not to be ignored in teh world.

Personally, I find their human rights record appalling, but I find the British one pretty dreadful too, so I'm saying nothing about that, glass houses, stones and what have you.

Indeed I'd love the Chinese to visit Scotland, although not much hope when Westminster is so anti Scotland.

I just think it's amusing to watch that little Eton creep grovel to teh Chinese.

If I actually cared about Britain I'd think that it was perhaps a bit of the dodgy side to have them so involved with nuclear installations, and a little hypocritical too given the Brits apparent deep need to have nuclear weapons to defend itself against the other nuclear states...especially given the ever closer relationship between Beijing and Moscow.

  2. Like you Tris I have no idea which millionaire politician is sitting next to who. The only thing I do know is that a recent SKY News papers review almost went into meltdown as the *ahem* reviewers tried to outdo each other with their concept of where Jeremy Corbyn would be sitting.

Apparently there may be a wee bit of panic amongst the mega rich and infamous at the cooncil hoose hosting the grand eat-in tonight. Let's face it Tris they certainly have one hell of a long table at these wee cooncil hoose eat-ins. I understand they run a telephone line down the length of the table so that attendees can call another attendee and ask them to pass the salt! No one apparently wants Corbyn to be anywhere near being in ear shot of President Xi.

    1. I wonder if he'll turn up in his beige suit and give Liz a red face. I expect he will behave with aplomb, although I can;t imagine him enjoying their hospitality. Maybe Liz will take the opportunity to induct him into the strafe drinking club called the privy council. I just hope they aren't having pork chops for dinner.

It reminds me of the famous Fawltey Towers episonde..."don't mention the war".

I think the reason that Cameron is so insistent that no one mention it is that Xi might well wonder why it is that the UN is looking into the UK's treatment of pensioners.

    2. I am wondering if the Racist member of the Royal House will not call them slitty eyed, he has a history you know.

    3. I bet they've locked him up in the dungeons. They can't afford to have him ruin everything.

I see Hammond was on the radio this morning assuring everyone that the USA was still Dave's bestie.

    4. Mind, I assumed you meant Phil... I imagine the rest of them are racist too, just more discrete than the old one.

    5. I was indeed meaning oor Phil, and they are not locking him away. Like you I thought this might be the safest thing but apparently not.

  3. The Chinese call it kowtowing and once you do that, overtly or perceptually, you become a "vassal."

You will be expected "follow" their thinking and your judgement will only be secondary to their needs.

One of the most stupid decisions I have ever seen taken by the Chuckle Brothers.

We need to get out of this clusterfuck of a Union.

    1. And, despite being invited Nicola will not go the Satae Banquet at Buck House.

Corbyn will, and I beleive he is now sporting a new haircut and smart new suit.

    2. Everyone has been warned not to upset them. The whole future of the UK depends on them pouring money into the country.

I'm all for having a good trading relation with China, and I don;t think for a second that lecturing them on human rights makes any difference, so I'm not one of the people who is screaming at them to raise the subject. As far as I am aware we don;t sell them the weapons to do the torturing and killing, unlike with the Middle East states.

But I think the Brits should be careful about allowing the Chinese to have overall control of a nuclear power station.

Still, I didn't go to Eton and Oxford, so what do I know...

  4. Satae banquet could mean it is an Indian meal, a Satanic one or a State one.

    1. Does i t make any difference?

I'm not sure what to make of Nicola's turning down the invitation. I expect she thinks that there are more important things to do than eating other people's food and drinking other people's wine at Buck House. She does her trade negotiations separately.

    2. For sure. Unelected head of state with God knows how many dodgy relatives hinging on to the taxpayer hand-oots, broon envelopes stuffed into receptive back pockets and colonies (or nations) trapped within this 3rd world establishment unable to get it's voice heard.
Sums up a 3rd world country for me.

  6. Overheard on R4 this morning that the subservient capers of the "British" Government will serve them badly with the Chinese. How will they serve two masters, should the US fall out with China, which master do they serve? I think given that the Chinese have long memories and given that the Opium wars etc are not as far back as many things Chinese, do the Muppets in our Government and Foreign Office actually think they have forgiven them. The other commentator was I think Canadian and he obviously was not a student of "ahem" the British State, it was England that and Britain this. We should be okay hardly anyone knows we exist as part of it regardless of the Proud Scot Butts.
