WHAT NICOLA THINKS...

Of Nuclear Disarmament...

Of Dealing with Labour...

Of a Possible Referendum...

Of Domestic Stuff...

  1. All sensible stuff. I like the way she dodged the royalist bullet there, by referring to the succession of the monarchy.

    1. Dodged it lol...Don't think she expected it and kinda fluffed the answer. Suspect she might rather not to see either of those dinosaurs succeeding to the throne, unless it's only the rUK throne.

    2. I suspect that she is a republican, too. That's why she talked about the succession, going according to tradition.

    3. Yes, I don't think there is any point in being controversial about things which in the greater picture, don't matter a damn.

To Joe McBloggs it won't make any difference whether there's a King in London or a President. The country won't suddenly be a better place becasue one person is in Buck House rather than another.

These people are insignificant to the running of the country. But for all that there are people who feel very strongly (emotionally) one way or the other.

I don't know what Nicola feels personally, but I remember her addressing the situation on her tour. She said then that the SNP under her leadership had no plans for a republic.

Of course it would have disappointed some people and reassured others, but most of us know that there are far more important things to worry about.

I suspect that royalty will burn itself out, possibly because of pompous new kings demanding status for their wife... poking their nose into government... princes who have colourful sex lives, although they are well past their prime... lazy junior royals who spend their lives holidaying, and of course scandals from the not too distant past.

Diana's death and the furore that surrounded the fact that the queen decided to stay in Scotland rather than go to London at that time, remind us that their coats may be on relatively shoogley pegs, regardless of how much some may coo over George in the short term.

  2. So bbc1 at 1pm today - Davis Cup tennis. Or bbc2 at 1pm Labour Party branch office in North Britain conference. Decisions, decisions... (Yeah I kept the tv license, it wasn't possible to get my fav programmes on catch up.)

In MSM hyperbole appears to be set to maximum stun. I love how Scotland is a valued member of the family of nations as long as you vote for a unionist party. I've no idea what will happen in May but really hope SNP are Scotland's largest party. Chinese proverbs indeed - interesting times.

You could watch one on the tv and one of the computer.

Labour should be amusing if nothing else.

I'm choking myself at the advice from the fossils in the Lords about not joining with the SNP in coalition. Like the SNP would do that anyway.

And some old fool telling the Tories to go into coalition with the Labour Party, because it may be the only way to save the union... I'd have thought that that was the first way to ensure the end of the union... possibly the end of either Labour or the Conservative too. (Look what happened to the Liberals!)

As you say, Scotland is a valuable part of the Uk as long as it don't want any part in running it.

      They really do despise us!
