It relates to the geography of the Middle and Near East, Arabia, and North Africa
I did OK on Africa, the Near East, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and most of the peninsula, although the little countries at the bottom got me a couple of crosses. But where I was pretty lost and did a fair pile of guessing was in the former Soviet “stans”.
I thought it was a pretty fun way of learning and I was pleased to see that there are other quizzes to be had.
In view of recent events in Egypt and Tunisia, and current events in Algeria and Yemen, and with the almost certainty of more desire for democracy, for which we have been calling for a long time, and yet almost certainly won’t like when it comes, at least in some of the countries, I think it’s an area of the world worth knowing a little more about.
Good luck.

Pics: A street scene in Mauritania, and the flag of Chad.
I'll have to give it a go. Some of those former Soviet republics are now making UK law so I should at least know where they are.
ReplyDeleteI think you are becoming a little obsessed Kipper my man.
ReplyDeleteThey are the middle eastern ones, the likes of Turkmenistan. They aren't in the EU or the Council of Europe or anywhere near Europe.
What is worse for me is that all these English MPs are making laws that affect Scotland.
Easy! Only got Turkmenistan confused with Uzbekistan ... not something advisable if you ever over there of course!
ReplyDeletetris..
ReplyDelete" They aren't in the EU or the Council of Europe or anywhere near Europe."
That will come as a surprise to Judge Khanlar Hajgev of Azerbaijan and Judge Ayse Isl karakas of Turkey who are both members of the ECHR.
Both countries featured in your map.
And what about the West Lothian question ?
ECHR and the EU aren't the same UKIPer.
ReplyDeleteBut you ken that anyway.
The West Lothian question is up to English MPs; vote for your own parly, don't moan about how good ours is.
I see on the EBC news that clampers are to be made illegal, several years after the were made so in Scotland...
Conan..
ReplyDeleteAye we've done that EU/ECHR to death ( a couple of times)Heck even I'm fed up with it ;)
Wasn't bothered about the West lothian question. Just mentioned it because tris hates English MPs' voting on Scottish stuff so thought I'd throw it in.
Clampers. Yes on private land.
Dean: Well done you!
ReplyDeleteDid you have some lucky guesses like me? Or are you just clever?
It's most unadvisable to get your country wriong if you are there. Didn't your mate Thatcher do that once when she was either a bit tired, or tired an emotional? LOL
I beg your pardon Kips...
ReplyDeleteThere are, in addition to the EU states: Andorra; Russia; Azerbaijan; Croatia; Armenia; Bosnia; Serbia; Norway; Iceland; Liechtenstein, Monaco; Switzerland; Macedonia; Albania; Georgia; Turkey; Moldova; Montenegro; San Marino; Ukraine.
All the states of Europe except the Vatican City.
Humble apologies!
I worry about this Scottish Select Committee, which has 5 Labour members from Scotland; 1 Liberal Democrat from Scotland, 3 Conservatives from ENGLAND, and an SNP member.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what English MPs are doing ona Scottish affairs committee in the English parliament.
Of course the reason is that there are no Tory MPs suitable for inclusion in the country. The one there is, has, for our sins, been made a minister. That's bad enough given how muddleheaded he is... But I despair of English on our committee.
They are fighting against Scotland....
Conan. They usually gget around to following us in the end.
ReplyDeleteKips... I see you are winding me up. :¬)
ReplyDeleteTo be fair Kips... Turkey isn't a former Soviet Republic.
ReplyDeleteI have moved to the back of the room never could get learning things parrot fashion.
ReplyDeletetris...
ReplyDeleteWind up ? Moi ;)
But to be fair I did say (in the first post )countries that affect UK law. Azerbaijan and Turkey are part of the ECHR so do have jurisdiction over UK Law.
Conan, that's coz you're not a parrot.
ReplyDeleteYou did indeed Kips:
ReplyDelete" I'll have to give it a go. Some of those former Soviet republics are now making UK law so I should at least know where they are. "
So how did you get on.... Did you work out exactly where all these foreigners are that are making our law? LOL!!!;¬)
tris..
ReplyDeleteAye.
I said it in the post below funboy...
