Colour us chuffed

So, David, as well as taking pictures of Japan (Kyoto), had the idea to inform the public who don't know about blogs, that there is more information out there than you get from the BBC or The Daily Mail.

He designed, got printed and distributed these cards, advertising some of the blogs he reads which support independence.

We are rather flattered to be included in this list of somewhat illustrious publications (although, to be honest, I don't think that Munguin knows the meaning of the word flattery).

So thank you David for doing this, for doing your bit for the independence movement and for kindly including Munguin's Republic.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015

Edinburgh
We'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who reads and comments (or just reads) these scribblings here at Munguin's Republic.

We appreciate the time that you take to make this blog what it is.

We really feel that we're a like a community of friends. Friends from all over the world... Scotland, England, France, Malaysia, China, USA,  and well, looking at the stats page, the list is seemingly endless so I'll stop at that. (There's no one from the Vatican.... why not?)

Anyway, wherever you are, Munguin and I wish you the very best of years in 2015.

Juste pour Rigoler aux Français et au Scotsman.

Munguin's Essential French for Tourists

Now, I'd be the first to admit that Munguin's Republic has the odd spelling mistake and a punctuation error here or there (their, they're) to its (it's) credit, and I'm eternally grateful for the help of the proof reader known to us all as Panda Paws, who for what Munguin considers a very reasonable stipend (nothing), points these out to Tris.

But Munguin, for all his self importance, isn't, and doesn't pretend to be Scotland's newspaper. The Scotsman, on the other hand...

I guess this snafu is what happens when you have had to move out of your large central offices to somewhere petit et bijou behind parliament ...and then again to a suite of offices on the outskirts of the town, with just an editor, a laddie and the tea wifie.

Still, as almost no one reads it (shares were at around 30p each in February; now at under 4p), I suspect it's not too much of a problem.

As for the story, I've got to say that I've never really found the French to be particularly rude to tourists. Not certainly any more so than anyone else, although, like most big cities, Paris isn't, perhaps, the most friendly place in the world. But if you get outside the big busy capital, and try a little French, instead of shouting loudly in English (deux bières, s'il vous plaît, monsieur), I'd say they were pretty warm and friendly.

SO THIS IS WHERE IT ALL HAPPENS...

Subrosa tagged me on her blog with a challenge to describe my workspace; the place where the blog is written... and so, bearing in mind that Munguin (possibly Lord Munguin this time next year, if that tenner he sent to 'Call Me' didn’t get lost in the catastrophe that was the Christmas post/flurry of snow/new computer system launched in November!!!) is a media mogul of some stature in his own lunchtime, I set out do so....

Munguin Towers is designed on plans loaned to him by his close friend the Sheik of Dubai, and as you can see from the illustration, it’s coming along nicely!

Munguin's taste in furniture lacks an element of savoir faire, but what can you expect from a wee furry animal. He likes to be in the office no later than midday. Of course his office being on the top floor, there being no lifts at the moment, and him having rather short legs, there's a little problem with him only getting there in time to leave again, hence the lack of actual input from him!...

However, with the suave that you'd expect of Tristan, his office space reflects something a little more minimalist and er, understated...

The editorial and general dogsbody staff is accommodated in the less opulent but still comfortable surroundings of the lower floors. Here you can see them busily at work...
er, well they were when Munguin passed through on his way to the ground floor 2 minutes ago...

The car park is spacious and reflects the duty of care that Munguin's Republic feels it owes its staff...

Alternatively... I work in a small, cluttered and rarely cleared desk in my bedroom, and Munguin from his lap top, on the bus!
