A DEAR GEORGE LETTER

This, from the inimitable Stephen Noon, was just begging to be shared.

Dear George,
Sometimes with you, it’s difficult to know whether to laugh or cry. On the eve of your visit to Scotland, though, we have to admit to having a bit of a giggle at your expense.
You say that with independence we might be stopped from using Scottish bank notes. We understand that’s meant to scare us but we just can’t help but snigger.
Have you shared the joke with the Bank of England? After all they’re the ones who would lose the £3 billion of deposits that cover the issue of Scottish bank notes – and that’s enough to bring a tear to even a banker’s eye.
And haven’t you been arguing that independence would mean we lose the UK’s AAA rating? What happened with that, by the way?
You’re very welcome here in Scotland as part of the No campaign but instead of making up silly stuff about independence, how about explaining yourself to the millions of Scots who are losing out now because of your government’s policies?
You might want to hide behind bank notes, but we want to talk about the bedroom tax and your damaging welfare changes, about your years of austerity cuts and the real possibility that you are dragging the UK towards a triple-dip recession.
But of course, there is one thing we’d definitely lose with independence, but strangely you don’t mention it. We’d lose you as our Chancellor. And, yes, that is guaranteed and, given your record, something that is very much worth voting for.
Sincerely,

  1. As soon as Osborne opens his mouth up here there will a few more people switched over to Yes Scotland.

On Call Kaye (Shoosh, I know) this morning her first caller I think came as a bit of surprise, it was a lady who was a wee bit annoyed as to why a close neighbour would treat an independent Scotland with such disdain when Westminster regularly gets pally with governments with much poorer resumes than Holyrood.

Of course, its all a red herring and anyone with even the most fleeting smear of an idea of how things work will know, the rest of the UK's economy would likely collapse if it was to be decapitated by Scotland leaving.

    Its all a bit risible.

  2. I'm looking forward to his lecture to us poor, wee, stupid Jocks. He can only do us a power of good.

I wonder if someone is going to point out to him that the sterling area needs the Scottish economy. What would/will happen to the UK economy were Scotland to have a different currency, is, of course, his business, but it would not do us any good to have a next door neighbour with its economy in a tank somewhere.

Call Kaye? Are you a masochist or something?

  5. I'm thinking that the current outpourings from Osborne rt al are purely down to the fact that they are scared shiteless and don't know how to move on so all we get from them is utter garbage! They are too terrified to admit that Scotland leaving the union WILL have a seriously NEGATIVE affect on their financial situation. Just a pity they are too gutless to openly admit this!

  6. Yes, of course arbroath.

I've challenged people, in my next post, to give us solid arguments for staying in the UK.

I don't think they have any, so people like Gidiot come and tell us a pile of scare stories. If they lost the Scottish contribution to the exchequer they would be sunk. This would be bad for them. Never mind losing their triple A, they'd be lucky to be junk rated.

But this would be bad for us too. We trade a lot with England, so we want them to have a strong economy, not a train wreck.

  7. Hope you'll excuse me if I don't hold my breath waiting for ANY evidence of such arguments existing. :-)
