DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS TONIGHT...

Spring Forward

  1. @Tris:
It's with some pride that I point out that America is ahead of Britain. Clearly, you were supposed to do this three weeks ago when we did. ;-))

Well, that is except for Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, The US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands in the far Pacific. These states and territories refuse to go along with Washington on this Daylight Saving stuff. Well, that is except for the Navajo Nation's tribal lands in Arizona who refuse to go along with Arizona, but DO go along with Washington.

You need to whip up some opposition on this. London should not have the final say. Washington at least can't manage it....LOL.

    2. I agree London should not have the final say, but daylight saving is beneficial to Scotland; especially in the winter months, without it those of us in the construction industry wouldn't start work till 10am, for example.

      Great cartoon.

    3. Danny, we all know that London should have the final say on everything. I mean they just get everything so right! All the time.

I mean without London's input where would we be in say, for example, Iraq or Afghanistan, or Libya? And just look at your time change. I mean, what a mess. I'm sure they'd whip these Puerto Ricans and Hawaiians into shape in no time.

Us colonials should sit back and leave it all to them, old chap.

Jim: I always look forward to this day. Not that the weather is any better, but somehow it seems to herald in something hopeful.

    4. Danny this causes no end of problems with my friend and I with our Skype conversations of a Sunday. Personally I would like this to stop. Can we just get back to good old Greenwich Mean Time and stay there. We could then just alter the hours people work or go to school. Lets face it we cannot make the Sun shine longer. Damned stupid idea caused by an early riser who felt everyone should be out enjoying the weather, and I may be wrong but he was ENGLISH.

    5. I read it was a wartime thing to enable people who came from to work to spend more time in their gardens growing food... you know. if they got home at 6 o'clock in GMT it would be May before they could get the veg planted, by which time it was too late.

      May be wrong though...

    6. @ Helena Brown: Time zones can offer difficulties here in the US where in rural areas a Standard time zone boundary may cut between adjoining farms. (Of course they avoid cities in drawing the time zone boundaries.) There are six time zones across the states, but a total of nine if you include the territories; from Atlantic Standard Time in Puerto Rico and the American Virgin Islands in the East, to Chamorro Standard Time in the far western Pacific.

An interesting situation occurs about 40 miles outside of Las Vegas where Hoover Dam spans the Colorado River which separates Nevada from Arizona, and Pacific Standard Time from Mountain Standard Time. So the west end of the dam is in Nevada, and is normally an hour earlier by PacificTime than the east end of the dam which is in Arizona and Mountain Time. There are clocks mounted in towers on each end of the dam which normally display the full hour of time difference across the dam. But during the part of the year that Daylight time is not observed in Arizona, the hour of difference across the dam disappears as Arizona doesn't set their clocks ahead one hour. So for several months each year, Hoover Dam has the same time at each end.

    7. Interesting... and confusing. Like driving in the USA and having to drive with lights on and then lights off... depending where you are

  2. Scottish Summer Time would be an oxymoron!
Perhaps we should call it Warmer Rain Time or Midges Time.

    2. Like the idea of Midgie time, isn't that something which is to happen 8th May, when we midgies go down to Westminster and annoy the hell out of everyone else.
