NOW, THAT'S NO WAY TO TALK ABOUT YOUR BOSS

Congratulations to the new Labour leadership team: Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson.

It's not what the establishment wanted, not the Labour Party establishment, not, I'll bet, London establishment, and if the Panorama Programme last Monday is any indication, not what the BBC wanted.

But it is very very clearly what the membership wanted. He had around 60% of the vote on first preferences. That's more than Tony Blair had when he was elected.

So now it's up to the parliamentary parties, in London, Edinburgh, Brussels and Cardiff to get over their disappointments, remember that they are there to serve the membership, and get behind Jeremy Corbyn and Tom Watson. The scale of Corbyn's win leaves them very little choice.

Will they, though?
Jamie Reed's resignation... Put on Twitter before Mr Corbyn
had the chance to read it? If indeed so, classy!

During the contest there were many threats and "promises" made.

People said that they doubted that they would be prepared to serve under a Corbyn leadership. Scotland's one and only Labour MP, a supporter of Cooper, only announced a few days ago that, on reflection, he would be prepared to serve under Corbyn having previously doubted it. Of course, by this week it was plain that the likely outcome was a Corbyn win.

On the other hand, Jamie Reed must be the first to have resigned. I'd never heard of him, but I'm sure he was very important in his own way. His resignation letter was published on Twitter as Mr Corbyn stood on stage making his acceptance speech.

How many will follow?
Needless to say this has been notices elsewhere...
Obviously we have a special interest in what the Scottish branch does. Initially Kezia Dugdale made it clear that she was not supporting him, although as he became more popular she became less strident in her views.

Now he is her boss.

It will be interesting to see if she is going to get behind him or if she will carp from the sidelines.
Oh don't worry Tony, not much likelihood that
anyone will need you anymore.

RICHARD BAKER TO STAND DOWN

I just heard the sad news that Richard Baker, list MSP for North East Scotland, is standing down at the election.

Mr Baker stood for the Aberdeen North constituency in the recent UK elections losing heavily to to Kirsty Blackman of the SNP.

He then stood for the deputy leadership of the Scottish branch of the Labour Party and lost that to Alex Rowley, although we do not know by how much, given Labour's policy of hiding their membership numbers.

It seems not to have been his year for winning stuff.

Mr Baker has held a variety of posts in the Labour Party in Scotland. He was for a while their Justice Spokesman. A job he was surely born for, as this clip shows.

Munguin's Republic wishes Mr Baker more success in whatever he chooses to do next.

SARTORIAL ELEGANCE WILL NOT BE LOST TO LABOUR IF MR CORBYN WINS

Scotland's one and only Labour MP, and the party's Scottish spokesman, Ian Murray, who said a few weeks ago that he didn't know if he would be able to serve under Jeremy Corbyn, has decided (now that Corbyn looks like winning), that he CAN indeed serve under the man.

Bless him, he says it's because he feels that the need a strong Scottish voice in the Labour shadow cabinet. Not that Corbyn would have a massive choice of Scottish representation. I can't help thinking it's more likely that he wants to hold on to his job!

If Mr Murray had decided to stick with his doubts, Corbyn might have be obliged to do what Farron on the Liberals has done, and invite his Scottish leader, Kez Dugdale, to serve in his shadow team as spokeswoman on Scotland.

The leadership race has now been run, controversies and all, but the results are still not known. Mr Murray wants Yvette Cooper to win, and while that's not impossible, it is looking less and less likely by the day, as this betting information shows.

For your information, the details of how the voting works and the timetable is as follows. We'll know at 11.30 on Saturday.

  • Candidates: Andy BurnhamYvette CooperJeremy CorbynLiz Kendall
  • Voting deadline was midday on Thursday, 10 September
  • When will the winner be announced? At a special conference on Saturday 12 September
  • Conference timings: It begins at 11:00 BST, with the result of Labour's deputy leadership election announced first. At 11:30, the winner of the leadership contest will be unveiled; they will then make a short acceptance speech. In both cases, round-by-round details of voting will be made available to show how each winner emerged
  • How does the voting system work? Voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate wins more than 50% of the votes in the first round, the person in last place drops out and their supporters' second preference votes are reallocated to the other candidates. This process continues until the candidate with the most accumulated votes wins.
They dragged out some frightful old relics to warn that Corbyn would make the Labour party into a socialist party, appealing to the working classes... OMG what a nightmare scenario.

DON'T BOTHER FEEDING THE KIDS: SECURE YOUR PLACE ON THE SECURITY COUNCIL INSTEAD

After all, I dare say Osborne's kids aren't going to go without food, nor are Cameron nor Willie the prince's,  so why waste money on children's food when you could be ensuring perfect facilities for your weapons of mass destruction and securing your place at the top table so you can carry on the pretence that you matter.

Mind you, I think that the notion that Scotland will be a part of the UK in 2067 is beyond farcical and if I'm right you'll have to find a new place to store your murderous junk, because it sure as hell won't be here.

I suspect in any case, that nuclear submarines may well be a thing of the past long before that.

They will look back at the dockyard, and how they will laugh at you.

I WAS GOING TO EXPLAIN, BUT THIS PERSON GOT THERE FIRST...

I expect, in reality, Cameron wants a war.

Things aren't looking good for him.

Business confidence is down; there's outrage over IDS killing thousands of people; the SNP has 56 seats in their parliament and is working as a real opposition to his tiny majority; he's had to withdraw Bills and last night he was defeated; the row over top people's paedophiles won't go away; he's been wrong-footed over refugees, by everyone; polls show the English will vote to take Britain out of the EU... and on and on goes the list.

A war will take all the bad news off the front pages and get him praise from the cheapo tabloids, the Mail, Express, Sun and Telegraph.

He'll be victorious and be photographed sitting astride a tank in the desert and everyone will proclaim him a hero...

Because it always works out for the best when Britain goes to war and kills loads of foreign people.

Doesn't it?
