Jonathan Portes agrees with Nicola Sturgeon on Austerity, and Air Miles gets an Appropriate Title

Here's a man who, despite his credentials of being from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, you won't be seeing a lot of on the BBC in the future, given that he disagrees with the Establishment. Even worse, he suggests that the first minister of Scotland is talking sense.

You could see the presenter squirm.

All the nice girls love a sailor...so they say.
Just to add a little levity to today's post, I read that His Royal Highness The Prince Andrew Albert Christian Edward, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh, Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, Canadian Forces Decoration, Aide to Her Majesty, has been appointed, wait for it, VICE Admiral, no really,  by Her Majesty the Queen, his mummy.

It's connected in a way to the last post in that you have to ask, did no one at the palace or the Navy consider that as His Royal Nobleness was a bit distracted recently over his close friendships with a convicted billionaire sex offender and his dubiously young prostitute, it might have been better to cheer him up with, I don't know, maybe a party or a weekend in Venice or something.

It's just that the first thing that hit me on the page was VICE ... of course maybe I just have an unpleasant mind...

  1. Were the BBC hoping that the man would attack the FM's speech? It did not work. LOL

    1. I imagine that that's the only reason they invited him on.

Someone will be demoted to tea duties, methinks.

Niko agrees with Nicola Sturgeon on Austerity the problem is with
her solution.................And obviously how wrong the snp got it on the price of Oil
upon which there entire present and future economic strategy was predicated on.
Anyone denying that fact is a LIAR

But austerity is an attack on the poor by the rich who caused the
financial crisis , And who now impose the responsibility for their
dept upon the poor and disadvantaged

    1. Wrong AGAIN.

The Scottish Govt would only start receiving oil money from March 2016 . Next year and by then the price will no doubt be higher. Scottish GDP is equal to the UK WITHOUT oil. It's a bonus.

Nichola Sturgeon will no doubt pick up a few supporters down south . She is a clever politician who works for the Scots. We have an outstanding leader and the also rasns here have nothing to offer but samo samo.

Who knows , she may yet wake up the English to finally see what a bunch they have ruling them and do something about it but i won't hold my breath. It;s far easier to blame the foriegner or even us Scots for their ills.

Cracking video Tris. Pity we won't see him again though. Telling the truth is like the SNP ...... bad.....

    2. Clearly austerity doesn't work. I can't see why Nicola's solution won't work, Niko. What is your solution?

Any talk about oil revenue is, as Richy points out, irrelevant.

I see the Noble Baron ffoulkes was bumping his blue blooded gums about this saying that if we had voted YES Scotland would now have been bankrupt, and that some muppet Tory from the house of Lords treasury team agreed with him.

Maybe they don't know in the House of lords that it is 2015!

As usual Wings over Scotland was able to provide figures that showed what a pile of crap he was blethering.

Still I've no time for someone who calls themselves Labour and then accepts a Noble title.

Yes, Richy. I think Nicola has already picked up supporters in England. I've seen a fair few tweets saying they wish they could vote for her.

    5. Niko Scotland is in better fiscal shape than the UK as a hole (typo) as you should know but conveniently ignore like most ignoramuses.

    6. What a shame that the Brits didn't have the nerve to do what Iceland has done.

I'm not sure these guys will have a very comfortable time in jail in Reykjavik. The misery they brought upon their fellow islanders won't be easily forgotten. As I've said before... Oh to be Icelandic.

    7. Niko, I take it you only read the rags produced by the people you like. Well enjoy yourself now because you did realise that the price at this level is fdoing irreparable harm to the UK and your beloved Mark Carney says the UK could go into a deflationary spiral, taking us with it. Don't you just love what you voted for, no control over your future, you don't have any you know. The future will belong to the UK who have been raping this country since 1707, we were more prosperous then they wanted, a to shut the back door and our wool trade, now they want all of our exports and our oil, but then you voted for that. We also have the poorest pensions in the Western World excluding Portugal and Mexico, good eh.

  3. The applause at the end of Nicola's speech and Q&A in London was very warm indeed. She's an impressive woman.

Fingers crossed the GE returns more SNP MPs. Unfortunately I don't think any Scottish Greens will win in 2015 but 2016 should increase their Holyrood representation.

and yes Tris I thought VICE too. Snigger...

    1. People noted that, unlike other politicians, she stayed around and answered questions. She is prepared to discuss her position with other intelligent people.

This contrasts big time with the likes of Brown or Cameron who walk away from any scrutiny.

    2. There's something rather unsavoury about thinking "VICE" and "Prince Airmiles" in the same month, never mind the same sentence!

    3. Good point Tris.

She always gives time to answer questions and the contrast between Nichola and the rest is huge. Most cannot answer a single question without spin or drivel aimed at the SNP. The Lady offers an alternative.

The rest , have nothing to offer only empty promises.

We are way past that now.

  5. Well Tris, nice to see our Nicola getting praised, I did not listen to her speech but read it and thought boy how are the Establishment going to counter that, well the BBC manages quite well by ignoring it mostly I believe. I do not know if this was true, as I do not watch the BBC for other than the weather, and I sometimes wonder why I do that.
We must have had the same thought about Andy, and VICE Admiral, not another one I thought, more Admirals than ships, does her Grace not know that.
Tell Niko that I missed the bit about oil going up to $200 a barrel shortly and has already breasted the tape at $60. Won't matter a damn Niko as oil goes straight to our imperial masters.

    1. I think, Helena, that even if you don't agree with her politics you would have to admit that Nicola is pretty star performer.

She's approachable, she talks to people who have the opportunity, and the right, to talk back and ask awkward questions, and when she gets asked an awkward question she attempts to answer it.

Her counterpart in London seems to be unable to face questions from anyone and Gordon Brown gives a talk and leaves, doubtless clutching his fee in his sticky mitt.

  6. Well, if they subsequently appoint Prince Edward as a Rear Admiral, we'll know just how intentional that choice of rank was...
