I'm not sure about Cameron's intelligence. When you have that kind of money and connections, an education and qualifications is no huge deal. They can easily be obtained.
I certain think he is sleekit though, cunning and devious, and that takes a certain intelligence, without doubt.
I suppose you learn that too at Eton. It's the only way to get on.
I think that there were no voters who genuinely love the UK. I don't know why. Some people like being part of an important county. There are people who are proud of the empire and the state we left the world in. Old Colonels, Aristocracy, etc. ... and of course the strange working class Tory types who are happy to vote for the battering they will receive.
Some No voters were people who were frightened into it by tales of no pensions, no health service, no money, poverty. They are probably the kind who had no internet connection and relied on the Lying BBC for the Daily Mail or their information. Maybe they accepted what the hired help told them as they knocked the doors because they had read it in the newspapers or that "nice" Jackie Bird had told them on the BBC.
I certainly know some who were afraid that THEY would make less money, or be able to keep less than they now do. Socialist Scotland frightened them to death. These are the kind of people who would walk past a food bank with a few gold credit cards in the their wallet and never think of donating a packet of crisps.
And there were the plain thick, best not to change anything, no matter how incredibly horrible it is. I remember asking one person living in a particularly disgusting run down part of Kirkton (a council estate in Dundee) if they would vote for independence. No, they said, better to stay the way we are.
I looked at the awful mess they lived in, the tatty cheap clothes, the squalor... and felt like banging my head against the wall. How much bloody worse could it get? I did try pointing out that things could be better than this... but they were desperate to get back to the daytime tv drivel I could hear...
The EU will tell Davy boy to suck it ( to use a crude Americanism), as for the eejits that voted for them to continue; they can suck it and see. See what they've done to us all and weep; we can only wait and calmly work towards our goal.
But what UKIP wants is foreigners banned from Britain and that is simply not going to happen. Freedom of movement and freedom to trade is a basic principle of the EU. I don't see Merkel giving in on that or really virtually anyone else.
So he will fail, and then he will lose the referendum, and then Britain will be in an even worse state as all the companies which are here for access to EU markets disappear to Hungary or the Czech republic... or Ireland.
PS: I reckon that they may let him have the right to not regulate the City of London so that they can go on cheating people all over the world. This would be an important plus for the Tories... or Labour.
Maybe better, he wouldn't be taking his expenses. You know there is nothing worse than a hypocrite and he certainly is one. I believe though a Son of the Manse and lordy the Labour Party is polluted with them, he is said to be of the atheistic tendency. Quotes the Bible like a pro though.
As he and Mrs Brown seem to be major recipients of the generosity of the the charity... with their first class air tickets and 6 star hotels all over the world, I'm wondering what they would do without the charity.
Different ways of looking at it. The US may want the UK in there, because they are their eyes, ears, and most immortality their mouth in the EU. Clearly anything that America wants brought up there will be brought up by the yUK.
Cameron is way more intelligent than the average 'No' voter. Give him some credit.

Even so Tris.
DeleteThe average 'No' voter appears to have had his/her brain macerated by an egg beater.
Or as Nigel says below 'thick as mince'.
You've got a way with words there, David....
DeleteAgreed-the no voters, being thick as mince, have dropped not only the 45% in it, but the 55% as well. And they fail to see it!!
ReplyDeleteA strange breed, the Scots-nowhere else on earth would a nation say no to winning the lottery, preferring instead to be ruled by the bullington boys.
Breathtaking!

ReplyDeleteI suspect he will be offered a few small things.

Not enough money in it for Gordon, principals come first.

DeleteThe US don't like the EU, it's too strong for them ie all Europe sticking together so how will it work for them if UK leaving ?

DeleteI hope you didn't buy that Telegraph Tris...
ReplyDeleteLordy Conan... you know me better than that.
DeleteI found the cutting on Twitter :)
You are a good lad for doing that.
DeleteMunguin doesn't allow for expenses like buying the Telegraph, Helena. It's not a bit like the House of Commons, chez Munguin!
