My mate Danny, who lives in Missouri, sent me a few cartoons from the States poking a bit of fun at the rather strange elevation of President Obama to Nobel Peace Laureate at this early stage in his presidency. I thought I'd share this one with you.

Let's hope he lives up to its expectations. (Barack I mean, not Danny.)

Oh, this is just to prove I CAN do a short post!*!

  1. And you were doing so well tris, until you had to add that last sentence.

You just couldn't let it lie...

  2. He he. (short reply.)

  3. One of the most endearing qualities of Americans is their blissful disregard and almost total ignorance of anything that takes place outside of the borders of the United States. (Except for American wars, which must of course remain a long distance offshore.)

This is illustrated here by the political cartoonist who believes that the Peace Prize is awarded in Sweden. One hopes that whomever in the American State Department takes care of European "stuff" will properly direct the President to Oslo (in Norway I believe) rather than Stockholm.

  4. LOL, Anon....

It would be a bit of an embarrassment if the President got off the plane at the wrong stop looking for his gong, only to be directed to the coach station... Wrong town, wrong country...LOL.

Scary, when you think of the power that lies in the hands of the State Dept! EEEEEK.

And State is now run by Hillary Clinton, Obama’s opponent in the bitterly contested campaign for the Democratic Party Presidential nomination. So, if there is any lingering resentment, she might just let him proceed to Stockholm.

But of course Obama is smart enough to know where the Peace Prize is awarded. George W. Bush, on the other hand, wouldn’t have had a clue……or a prize for that matter.

  6. Well your grace, you have a point there. It is indeed fortunate that Obama has his head firmly sewn on.

Dubya....? peace prize....? oh yeah, that's a really good joke.... ha ha ha ha ha.....

Actually, did he ever get any prize, except maybe for being able to read upside down?

I thought I found an actual award he had won....(except for various stupidity awards of dubious distinction.) But the "Stewardship of Texas Values Award" actually went to President Bush the elder.....not to his idiot son.

Whether it's actually worthwhile to be a steward of the values of the State of Texas is a matter of debate, among all but Texans.

  8. Well my Lord,

Didn't Bush the Stupider get something from his devoted follower Blair the Arrogant?

Maybe even Blair who was frequently only recognisable by the soles of his shoes (if you get my meaning) couldn't find any awards to give him.

Still I heard he was a dab hand with a saw and timber down there on the ranch. Perhaps we could give him a lumberjack award?

It worries me what he will do when he's chopped the last tree down!!
