THE BEST SPEECH FROM TRIDENT DEBATE

  1. She certainly doesn't miss with that speech.

I hope it was piped into the bars where the majority of the other MP's were.

    1. I often see pics of the empty benches, and I've always considered it likely that they are discussing something of localised interest in which the rest of the Commons wold have no particular business.

But it's interesting, isn't it, that given that it is SOOOO vital to the nation's security (without it we'd be obliterated by Friday) that most of them couldn't be bothered getting out of the bars and turning up to listen to the arguments.

I think it's time that they were reminded what we PAY them to do.

What a sham of a democracy.

    2. Well her incoherent, emotional, illogcal rhetoric was lost on me.

    3. Incoherent? In what way. She speaks clearly, albeit with an accent.

Emotional? Not unreasonable to be emotional about spending £200b+ on something that could wipe out a country and everyone in it.

Illogical? I completely fail to understand that claim. it all seemed to follow logically to me.

  2. It all made perfect sense to me, but then, I don't look at the world through milky Empire-tinted glasses and harbour delusions of grandeur about the country in which I live.

I'm not much of a joiner and I'm instinctively skeptical about most politicians, but sometimes you have to meaningfully take a side - so I finally joined the SNP this morning.

For what its worth, they've earned it.

    1. Hi Pa,

I suspect that this debate may have swayed some people to do what you did.

Of course there are people in Scotland who like the idea of being able to obliterate a country and all that is in it. And there are some who believe that 20,000 jobs will disappear from the West of Scotland, and the economy will crash, if we don't see £200 billion spent on this instrument of death.

Presumably becasue the BBC says so in the hopes that the English Culture Secretary will allow them to put up the licence fee and provide more repeats so that some of the top management can go on flying first class and taking taxis to Manchester.

      :)

  3. This woman talk more sense than the whole of the other side of the aisle.
The biggest spend any government has ever considered and the most dangerous, but the benches are empty!

    1. Yep, imagine the various conversations:

We're debating whether to spend £200 billion or not. But it's a nice day so lets go on the terrace and drink Pimms.

Yes, it's important, but Theresa wouldn't like it if we let her down in her first big vote.

Yes it's important, but this is our opportunity to smack it to Corbyn. Angela for Prime Minister...

I say old chap, the point here is how much is our place at the top table worth. 200 billion...300, 400, a trillion. I say whatever it takes. The world can't do without Britannia showing it the way. Why look at Wimbledon, Lords, Henley, Her Majesty. Great English institutions. No, spend what you will. We'd only be killing foreigners and jocks if it all went wrong, What what.

Absolutely old chap. Anyway there's that young filly talking in a foreign language. Can't understand a damned word, what! Another snifter?

  4. Mhairi is even more fluent, coherent and able than she first appeared. What a contrast to her Head-Boy/Teddy-Taylor-Lite predecessor.

    2. Well, I hope that, when the Caliphate launches its attack on the Uk, we'll be able to help them out in some way.

But obviously, you've made your point.

I do hope you are remembering that your leader voted the same way as the SNP, although clearly the guy who's trying to take the leadership from him voted for trident, despite having been a lifelong member of CND. Weird or what?

    3. A life long member of CND, or just another Tory chancer on the make...
More and more "Labour" MPs seem to be "sleepers", in the old spy movie genres.

    4. Yes, I've been reading a bit about him. I though Angela was a horror but he's a complete erm, whatsit.

  7. A very talented and articulate person indeed. A future leader of an independent Scotland?

What a difference it is to be represented by people such as this, after years of being "represented" by 40-odd, expense claiming, cringing, losers.

    1. There were some who were dubious about Ms Black before her election.

They were wrong. Maybe she's only 21, or 22 now, but as you say, what a fantastic member of parliament to be represented by.

I hope she will one day be one of our leaders, maybe even Prime/First/Premier Minsiter, or whatever we call them.

    2. I'd get rid of the "minister" tag, too royalist or religious... Just a thought.

  8. ICM poll of Scottish voters:

    43% support trident renewal
    42% opposed

Doesn't seem like Ms Black & her SNP cohorts are speaking for the majority of Scots at all. Maybe they've been drinking too much of their own propagandistic coolaide?

    1. One ICM poll doesn't add up to much, but I;'m sure Nicola will take it on board.

Of course, I'm sure there are many Scots that believe, without giving it much thought, that they could use it on ISIS or the Taliban, or a mad bloke driving a truck though a pile of people at the seaside... The Daily Mail will certainly lead them to believe that).

And of course there are undoubtedly some that get excited about wiping out a complete town, even a whole nation. There are people who get off on that kind of thing!

There are probably some who think that Britain's amazingly competent and able government must be consulted if any big world action is required because they are uniquely gifted with vision and foresight (as illustrated by the state of the roads, railways, hospitals, schools, etc...and the excellent state that we leave countries in after we have invaded... think Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, not to mention the brilliance with which our prime ministers foresee exactly how things will pan out... think Egypt at the beginning of the Arab spring!

The English don't have a monopoly on that sort of thing.

The rest of us kinda wish that they'd spend money on the things that we need NOW.

  9. wish the foi facts would be given on the actual, factual jobs in faslane/coulport and not jackie baillies fumble with an abacus..then its over to the good old scottish public to decide if its serious about self determination or keeping the shackles on..last chance saloon i would say..

    1. Aye, Kat. Jackie and her jobs, huh.

She'd be better arguing that full time service personnel in Scotland reduced by 40+% compared with 25% in the UK . And what is the government doing about that.

The MoD says there are around 500 jobs dependent on the submarine base. If we are hanging on to the subs for employment then these and the most expensive jobs in the world. The cost more than Prince Andrew's daughters and that's saying something.

  10. Somebody might also have pointed out that we can´t fire the bloody things without the USA´s say-so. So it´s all a sham anyway. The UK´s ¨independent voice¨ is on a par with that of a ventriloquist´s dummy. If, heaven forbid, they´re ever used it will be with Uncle Sam pulling the strings.

But a Mhàiri a ghràidh! What can you say? Guid on yer hen! Every Scot with a heart should be bursting with pride to have sik a yin speak for them. And at an age when most of us were still having pretendie debates in the safety of a student´s union. Here´s tae her, wha´s lik her? Between her and Nicola the nation is truly well blessed :-)

    1. Absolutely, we are blessed with Mhairi and with many others to be fair...

It's fantastic that we have young people coming up who are tomorrow's leaders.
