A Guid New Year to Ane An' A'

A guid new year to ane an' a'
An' mony may ye see,
An' during a' the years to come,
O happy may ye be.
An' may ye ne'er hae cause to mourn,
To sigh or shed a tear;
To ane an'a baith great an' sma'
A hearty guid new year.

Chorus
A guid new year to ane an' a'
An' mony may ye see,
An' during a' the years to come,
O happy may ye be.

2. O time flies past, he winna wait,
My friend for you or me,
He works his wonders day by day,
And onward still doth flee.
O wha can tell when ilka ane,
I see sae happy here,
Will meet again and merry be
Anither guid new year.

Chorus

3. We twa ha'e baith been happy lang.
We ran about the braes.
In yon wee cot beneath the tree,
We spent our early days.
We ran about the burnie's side,
The spot will aye be dear,
An'those that used to meet us there,
We'll think on mony a year.
Chorus

4. Noo let us hope our years may be
As guid as they ha'e been,
And trust we ne'er again may see,
The sorrows we ha'e seen.
And let us wish that ane an'a'
Our friends baith far an' near,
May aye enjoy in times to come -
A hearty guid new year!
Chorus

  6. Scotland subsides Pr*ck Charles

But from 2013, the Civil List will be scrapped and the monarchy will be financed by what’s been titled the Sovereign Support Grant - comprising a share of the profits made by the Crown Estate, a vast £6.6billion property empire where the profits go to the Treasury.

  7. Utterly disgusting.

"We" are, I see, not in this with the common people!

I don't know why we let the government treat us like this.

Take money off the pensioners by using the "preferred measure" of inflation (I mean inflation is inflation, there shouldn't be a preferred measure) and give Charlie even more money to be extravegant with.

Even the Queen thinks he's spendthrift. Pity she couldn't chop his stupid head off.

  8. We live in a corrupt establishment tris and that sadly can't be changed peacefully. From one of your blog links Two books about previous tough times: the themes resound today but will be ignored as they have no voice.

  9. Good links. Richard Hoggart's Uses of literacy is another brilliant portrait of working class life at the beginning of the last century; English, but authentic for all that as Hoggart himself came from a Hull working class family, and rose to be a professor of English. Quite a feat!
