HYPOCRITES TO THE LEFT AND HYPOCRITES TO THE RIGHT
The hypocrisy was apparently that Obama would never allow free movement of labour into and out of the United States. (It could be argued of course that within the united STATES of America one can move freely from state to state, find gainful employment, go to college, retire etc, etc. So poor old Florida with its (usually) wonderful climate gets more than its fair share of pensioners fleeing "the snows of New England states" to look after. But it is fair to say that that's splitting hairs.)
So it's a reasonably fair comment from Johnson. It's nothing to do with the American president and in our opinion he shouldn't have commented at all. (I can't begin to imagine what Cameron promised him for his endorsement, but expect us to be at war some time very soon.)

So when it comes to being a hypocrite, let's just say that it takes one to know one, eh Boris?

Subject: Independence Referendum
In response to the suggestion of absolute carnage in and
around polling stations on the 18th Sept Brian Docherty, Chairman of the
Scottish Police Federation said;
“The independence debate has been robust but overwhelmingly
good natured and it would prove a disservice to those who have participated in
it thus far to suggest that with 17 days to go, Scotland is about to
disintegrate into absolute carnage on the back of making the most important
decision in the country’s history
Politicians and supporters of whichever point of view need
to be mindful of the potential impact of intemperate, inflammatory and
exaggerated language, lest they be seen to seek to create a self fulfilling
prophecy”

It doesn't seem impossible to me that the thinking behind this nonsense from the No Campaign was to incite violence. Fortunately the police seem to think it as ridiculous as the rest of us.

WE THOUGHT WE'D LOST ALISTAIR, BUT HERE HE IS WITH ANOTHER BLUNDER
I was just asking the other day what on earth had happened to the Tory nonentity that is the Secretary for Scotland.
Since being pulverised on live television by Nicola Sturgeon, and then losing a debate in his own constituency on the referendum, the BIG BEAST we were promised would make Alex Salmond turn homeward tae think again seemed to have disappeared.
Probably catching up on moving the furniture round in Dover House, I suspected as that is more or less what his job consists of.
But no. Big Alistair, the prime minister's man in Scotland has been out there warning Alex Salmond not to use the Commonwealth Games to big up Scotland.
But, you have to ask yourself, why on earth does anyone have these kind of events if not to sell their own country.
Why, did not Mr Carmichael's own government, at the time of their Olympics, which we helped to pay for, wave its union flag all over the place extolling the virtues of Britain and all it had to offer (billionaire) businessmen and bankers? Were London's docks not filled with the most expensive ocean going yachts as oligarch after sheik parked up to be VIP'd down the "rich people only" lanes to the stadia, served champagne and given access to ministers?
And as the illustration (click to enlarge) shows, did not Mr Carmichael's boss lecture us Scots from the Olympic park, not that long ago, urging that the Olympic spirit of the Coca Cola/McDonald Games should keep us all together as one happy family, and keep the income flowing into London from our oil fields so that the bankers could play with it for their own advantage?
Really, why are we governed by such a set of clods, that imagine us to be stupid enough not to be able to remember as far back as last February? Best thing you can do Alistair, ya muppet, is keep a low profile till it's all over.

In other news, the Middle East Peace Envoy, having done such a splendid job of keeping the peace in the Middle East, decided that, job done, he could give us his opinion on Scottish independence. He believes that we will reject the right to self determination, and say NO he told the press.
But then, he also believed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, didn't he? No, that's not fair. On reflection, he didn't believe that at all. Mr Bush told him to say it, so he said it.
Still it's great news for us. No one much likes money grubbing war criminals. That should bag us a good few thousand more YES votes.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh deary deary deary tut! "The BBC is committed to ensuring balance in all aspects of the Referendum debate programmes..." What a set of lying cheating BBCs they are.

An attempt to commit Labour to abandoning
coalition spending plans for 2015-16 was heavily defeated on Sunday at the end
of a policy conference described as a "radical rethink" of what the
party stands for.
![]() |
| So, no end to this... And you are still in the Labour Party? |
Balls, the shadow chancellor, said the vote showed there was
widespread support in the party for a manifesto based on "big reform, not big spending" and that members endorsed the tough fiscal position adopted
by the leadership.
So, there you have it folks. Even if you get a Labour government next time round, you will get Tory policies. Don't be poor or sick or old or unemployed now, will you?

THE GORDON BROWN REFERENDUM ROADSHOW
CHEQUES, DRAWN ON ANY OF THE BANKS THAT HE PERSONALLY SAVED, SHOULD BE MADE PAYABLE TO GORDON BROWN. CASH PREFERRED (BANK OF ENGLAND NOTES ONLY)
So, according to this letter on Labour for Independence Facebook page, North Briton, Gordon was wheeled out to make a speech for Better Together Alone, and apparently refused to take any questions, not because of lack of time in his busy schedule, but because he wanted to sell books.
It seems to me that speaking on the referendum is a commercial opportunity for Gordon. Grubby New Labour Neolib moneymaker with no time for the concerns of plebs and frightened to have to justify his right wing agenda to proper Labour people.
Hope no one bought it.

FOR SOME INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION, LET'S BRING OUT THE OLDIES
It was the day for political yesterday's men to be interviewed on the Today programme which I half listened to this
morning. The "star" was John Major, on the EU and Ukip threat interviewed by John Humphries.
But earlier we had the pleasure of the views of Lord Sir David
Steel, ex MP, ex, MSP, ex presiding officer, and current member of the
retirement home chamber, on the independence referendum, with the more junior Justin Webb.
So what did his nobleness and beknightedness bring to the table?
Anything of interest?
In a word, nope.
The excuse for having him on was that he’s hosting a meeting
tonight, in company with his colleague from the days of the Liberal/SDP marriage, Shirley
Williams as she once was.
He says that the Liberals want, as they say they have always
wanted, federalism, or devolution max. A Scotland that raises the taxes it spends.
I’m not sure if David Steel knows that his party is now in
government and that the days of wanting things but not being listened to are
(at least for the next few months) over.
I’m wondering if he is aware that it was a Liberal Secretary
of State that went with Cameron to Edinburgh to agree the terms of the
referendum.
I’m wondering if it ever occurs to him that the time for settling a devo max, federalist option might have been back then, when his Liberal Secretary of State at the Scotland Office was sitting with the Prime Minister, First Minister and Deputy First Minister agreeing terms.
I’m wondering if he knows that that’s not really what Willie Rennie is arguing for. I even wondered briefly if he knew who Willie Rennie was.

I’m wondering if he knows that that’s not really what Willie Rennie is arguing for. I even wondered briefly if he knew who Willie Rennie was.
His arguments are, of course, the benefits of the union, and
although he may have more up his sleeve for tonight, among the ones he trotted out this morning
was that we were a fabulously successful union (and from his point of view one cannot argue
that. With his K and his elevation to the aristocracy, it’s certainly worked
well for him.).
He also repeated that we fought together in the world
wars (but neglected to mention that we also fought alongside many other
countries which don’t have their pensions, taxes and social security set by
London.
He bemoaned the fact that this discussion had been going on
for 3 years, although the official campaign was just starting. No-one of course
pointed out to him that from the moment that the SNP majority government, with a
referendum in their manifesto, became reality, the unionists never ceased
demanding a date for that referendum, and that his coalition’s prime minister and
his party’s Secretaries of State (all three of them) never talked about
Scotland in terms other than the referendum.
Same old, same old, with no counter arguments from Webb, who had tried to hijack the interview before it even
started, for something that clearly he thought was of more interest than Jockland (more of which
later). To his credit Steel was snippy with him and pointed out that he had
come on to talk about Scotland.
The interesting thing was Steel seemed to be rather less
than interested in the finances of the matter and maybe, given Alexander's faux pas of this week that's not surprising. It was, he said, going to be
expensive. Divorce always was. But it was not about the money; it was about the
kind of country we wanted to live in, and no one wanted to live in a country
that would want to break up a union…well, that’s what he said. Lady Steel anyone?
And so now we know the views of a man who has a pension from
being an MP; a pension from being an MSP, and a Presiding Officer, a state
pension, and £300+ a day tax free and as much subsidised food and drink as he
wants for sitting around in a royal palace being referred to as milord.
It’s not about money, eh David, erm I mean your grace and your sirhood.
It’s not about money, eh David, erm I mean your grace and your sirhood.
No one thought to ask him what he thought of Danny's invented figures nor of his possible future in the House of Lords when he doesn't get himself
re-elected.
But Justin did want to talk about something that his English listeners were interested in. Namely Lord Rennard and his mealy
mouthed and obviously insincere apologies for his inappropriate behaviour. (As
in…”OK OK, you’ve been going on and on about it for ages. I’m sorry I touched
up the women. It was totally accidental. I didn’t mean it. Now can I be
reinstalled in the party with my old position?”).
It seems that aristocrats are better sticking together, because Mr Steel
thought that mr Rennard had apologised and should be given back the whip. Lord knows what he'll do with a whip. The mind boggles.
But then, you have to remember that this is David Steel we're talking about. ? Cyril Smith anyone?

NOT SO SCOTTISH LABOUR FROM BUCKINGHAM GATE, SW1
Labour has been obliged by law to register for participation in the Scottish Independence Referendum.
Although we forever hear about 'Scottish Labour' and the 'Scottish Labour' leader, and how much power and authority she has (at least in theory), and how they are all very Scottish (just equally British, which may suggests that they can only be half Scottish), the truth of the matter (as DougtheDug or Dubbieside have pointed out on many occasions) is that Labour is a London organisation. It doesn't exist.
They just don't want you to know that so they continue with the myth that they do.
However, when faced with registering for something like this, they are, as everyone is, obliged to do so by the letter of the law.
The result is that 'Scottish' Labour doesn't actually have the word 'Scottish' in its title and its address is in London SW1.
