DEAR HEAVEN, IT CAN'T BE TRUE...

Erm... what growth?

What on earth are you talking about?

Wages are going down, poverty is going up, people in social housing are now suffering from damp because they can't turn the heating on; that's only those that haven't been thrown out on the street. More food banks every week; larger proportion of children in poverty than Greece, which, by the way, they tell us, is how we will end up when we go for independence.

Oh, wait, yes, you mean the growth of the banks, bigger and richer than they ever were with our money in them and heading for another crash; the number of houses selling for over a million pounds in the south east of England? Executive pay that has climbed? All the properties that are being built for tax exiles in London, while Londoners are forced farther and farther out of their town to rent a small bedsit in a slum at £700 a week.

That recovery; that growth?

You'll pardon me for missing it. It's just that it isn't happening here. Must be a London thing!

Briton of the year? Boris will be wanting to name his nut job airport on an non-existant island, in a river given to flooding, just by a bird sanctuary, after him soon. George Osborne and Margaret Thatcher Batshit Mad International.

Cretin of the year more likely.

  1. Warning of ‘serious flaws' in economy as debt rises again

Mr Dolphin said: “In the global economy we are truly living beyond our means, and have been doing so for three decades. The UK's trade performance has been hindered in recent years by developments in the eurozone, but poor numbers are nothing new: 2013 will be the 30th straight year in which the UK has recorded a deficit on its current account balance. This is a sign that there is a fundamental flaw in the UK's economic model.

    Failure is success!

    1. Well, no Munguin, I'm not, but the Times is (which suggests that perhaps Murdoch is unfreezing a little towards Cameron, or perhaps that he knows that Cameron will be replaced by Boris, his friend).

You only have to read the link CH provided to know that the economy is in a parlous situation.

He has allowed people to take on more credit. Christmas has been paid for on cards and loans, as usual, after years of people trying to pay their debt down.

Unfortunately because the Uk makes very little, almost all of what was bought had to be imported, and so created almost no jobs at all.

If they keep on putting it about that there has been a recovery, then shops may try to phase out their neverending sales.

That should finish poorer people off completely!

    1. Stranger things have happened Marcia. Johann Lamont was debater of the year. Something even her closest friends would have difficulty believing.

I just hope your jaw did the decent Australian thing ... you know, like a boomerang...?

  4. Foobanks sprouting up everywhere, unemployment hitting over 2 million disabled and sick thrown off benefits for nothing, terminally ill told their fit to work, zero-hour contracts prevelant now, low paid workers in dire straits, bedroom tax punishing the poor, the UK £1.3 trillion pounds in debt thats unservicable long term, Yip Gideon Osborne really knows his stuff.

    1. That's obviously the kind of Britain that the Times wants to see.

Particularly the part that states that we can no longer afford a welfare state... Private pensions, private healthcare... on yes. The Times likes this.

  5. You know about the Fraser Nelson stuff here?

    http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/fraser-nelson/2013/12/the-issue-of-scottish-passports-shows-how-small-minded-the-snps-campaign-is/#

'Tis interesting what weird people you meet below the line.

I tried to get the 'Viceroy of Gin' no less to enter into a bet with me about the margin of our win. Fraser Nelson seems to be a decent chap, because that goad has disappeared. Probably some rule about not placing bets on t'internet or summat. Or not taking money off soaks, dunno.

    1. Aye Douglas, I had seen it, and the fact that it had been systematically destroyed by Stuart Campbell.

There are some weirdos that comment on these sites; still in fairness, I suppose some of them probably think I'm weird too!

  6. tris

You just know when a English conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer and Second Lord of the Treasury Is nominated for Briton of the year.
a spectacular injustice has been done and will continue to be inflicted
on anyone not wealthy outside of the south east of England.

    anon

Gideon does know his stuff attack the enemy and we alongside the majority of not wealthy people within the UK are ' IT '

    1. I suppose the nasty wee toad will be buoyed up by the fact that Rupert approves. As I said earlier, I imagine that it's quite possible that Gideon is now batting for Boris, and hoping to be rid of the ineffectual Cameron pretty soon.

      Boris... heaven help us...

    1. Well, you know, the Fraser Nelson types are all into that.

I tend not to see it myself. Just the way I was brought up. People's colour or religion or nationality has never really interested me in teh least.

I'd hope for a country where we can convince the best possible people to be living here and calling scotland home, even if they weren't born here.

It's so unimportant where you were born...

But it does go down well with Sun and Daily Mail/Express readers...

  8. No Tris your thinking of the Financial Services Authority which was abolished in April this year and replaced by the Financial Conduct Authority. The SFO is still up and running and is part of the Attorney General's department it deals with fraud (as you would think) whereas the FCA deals with the conduct of financial service providers such as banks. Its not much different from the FSA essentially its like changing the name of Windscale to Sellafield after it nearly blew the Lake District into the Atlantic!!

    1. Ah right. Sorry. It's easy to be confused by all these supine offices of the state that don't really do anything much except make big salaries for their bosses, and keep some of the better restaurants in business.
