JOYEAUX ANNIVERSAIRE Mme PÉTULA CLARK

As I did last year, I’d like to take the opportunity of wishing a happy birthday to my idol Pétula Clark.

This has been a busy year for Pet during which she has toured Australia and New Zealand, America and ended up on Saturday with a massive bilingual concert in Montreal at the Théàtre St Denis. She is heading off now for France where she is to be the special guest of “Vivement Dimanche”, a sort of French “This is your Life”, then off to Megève for a well earned rest with her family.

She has also recorded several new songs in French and English and has proudly become President of the Hastings Music Festival in her native England.

She is currently considering offers to recreate Norma Desmond (a part she played for longer than any other actress), on stage in Paris, and an another offer from Broadway...

And all this at 78 years young. I’ll have a pint of whatever you’re on Pet.

I hope you had a great day Petula.

  1. Happy Birthday Petula. I've loved your records since I was a kid. You've outlasted all your rivals Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield and Sandie Shaw. No wonder. You've got the voice of an angel.

  2. Yes Anon. She was singing before they were around and she's still up there after they have gone.

Lulu is still around though. She was 60s too...
And I think Dionne Warwick is still singing, as are her French contemporaries Françoise Hardie and Sylvie Vartan.
