IT'S NOT EASY BEING HMRC

Sometimes, while glancing through the papers, you feel inclined to ask yourself if it’s April 1st again.

It was thus when I read the story in the Telegraph financial section about the tax office....again.

It seems our beloved Inland Revenue have been sending out letters telling people that they are owed sums of between a few pounds and £24,000. And of course like most of the stuff that comes out of that office ... it’s all rubbish!

They just don’t know how it happened. It’s a complete mystery to them doubtless. But they are looking into it very urgently. Yawn.
The trouble is that, as we already know from the last cock up, there are tens of thousands of people who ARE owed money, and if you get this letter, how are you to know which category you come into... those who ARE owed money because they made a mess of things, or those who are NOT owed money but got a letter anyway, because they....made a mess of things....?

Butt...Elbow....Elbow....Butt.... Nope, we didn’t think they’d be able to tell the difference.

As the picture at the top says "Check you're paying the right tax". They tell you to do that for yourself, because for sure HMRC won't have a clue.

  1. Just sometimes they come up trumps as in my case. My error would have cost me £4k. Trouble was my mistake was due to their poor grammar!

  2. Wow OR... That's good news for you. Well done. Mine’s a double!!!

I never cease to be amazed by the grammar, spelling and punctuation mistakes in government forms.

Still all that should change now that we have an Eton OB in charge again....
